Welcome to WISTA Singapore

Women International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) was formed in UK in 1974, 35 years ago by a group of shipping ladies in London.  To date, there are a total of 24 National WISTA(s) with more than a 1000 members.

WISTA Singapore was established in 1998 as a non-profit organization, providing a networking forum for female professionals involved in shipping,

trading and related business within the maritime industry.

WISTA Singapore is a national chapter of WISTA – the first to be founded in Asia,  made-up of women professionals working from diverse companies such as ship owners, trading houses, bunkering houses, ship brokers, chartering, ship management, insurance, finance and the law.

WISTA Singapore maintains  the following aims and objectives:

  • To be a non-profit organization for women involved in shipping and trading related businesses;
  • To give support to members as well as to enhance their knowledge in shipping and trading issues;
  • To promote the education and broaden the experience of members in the business through conferences, seminars and networking.

To achieve these goals, WISTA Singapore organizes :

Annual events

-----------------

·         Chinese New Year luncheons

·         Annual General Meeting in August

·         Christmas luncheons in December

Other events

·         Seminars and workshops; and

·         co-organizes conferences with other shipping associations on topics of interest to members;

·         ‘Happy Hour’ sessions to promote networking amongst the members.

Internationally, a WISTA International conference is held annually, normally in September/October.  The National WISTAs have the opportunity to host the annual international conferences, and WISTA Singapore, with the full support of The Singapore Maritime Port Authority ( MPA ),  had the privilege of hosting the annual international conference in September 2006.  Being the first WISTA Conference in Asia, as well as the first all female shipping related conference in the Far East, a record of 250 female participants attended the conference in Singapore.  (click conference 2006 to see reports and photo gallery).

It is truly my honour to have the full support of members present at the 2009 AGM to be elected as President for 2009 – 2011.  With this new role, I shall brave the waters to challenge and fulfil my responsibilities, and I hope to excel beyond expectation.

WISTA Singapore welcomes new members whose background and professional profile can enhance the diversity and networking opportunities of our members, as well as continue to strengthen and grow this unique Association.  For those interested in knowing more about us or who maybe visiting Singapore, please either contact us either by email or join us at one of our many educational or social events.

We look forward to welcoming you onboard!
