WISTA USA 2014 Annual General Meeting - New Orleans

Over 80 WISTA USA members and guests gathered in New Orleans from May 7-9, 2014 for WISTA USA's Annual General Meeting. On Wednesday, May 7th, a handful of attendees visited Southern Scrap for a tour of their metal recycling yard, then headed over to Lake Pontchartrain to clean up a section of the lakeshore. That evening, members attended a cocktails and bowling reception at Fulton Alley. On Thursday evening, the group gathered for refreshments at the National WWII Museum, including a showing of "Beyond All Boundaries," the Museum's newly released 4-D film narrated by Tom Hanks. On Friday, the morning session kicked off with the WISTA USA business meeting, followed by a panel of distinguished speakers from both government and private industry on the topic of "The Mississippi - Backbone of America: The Infrastructure Crisis." The AGM wrapped up with a gala dinner at Palace Cafe on Canal Street.

WISTA USA 2013 AGM week photos

The 2013 WISTA USA Annual General Meeting, hosted by our Pacific Northwest Chapter, took place in Seattle, WA, from May 14-15. The theme of the AGM was "Pacific Northwest: Gateway to the Arctic," and the speakers and program focused on the environmental, logistical, regulatory, and other challenges confronting the booming maritime and energy industry in the region.

WISTA's Eighth Annual Luncheon kicking of Connecticut Maritime Association's Shipping 2013 was another sold-out event! Our speaker, Birgit Liodden of YoungShip International, gave a thought-provoking presentation on how to attract young people to the shipping industry.
